Occupations:
mainly services (social services, trade, commerce, transport, storage,
communication, ) = 38.8 %; White collar = 31 %; ‘lumpen’ = 19.5 %;
manufacturing (?) =10.4 %
JAICA study area 2010 Employment by zone of residence:
Primary=4.4%; Secondary =14.6%; Tertiary=81%
Employment Participation rate = 27%. This figure is rather
low;
Unemployment
level in the city remains very high, and exceeds those employed by about 27%.
.. Unemployment is almost 99% among female residents.
GDP: average
growth rate has declined from around 6% in the 1980s to around 3% in the last
five years
Incomes: Average
Household Income for Towns/Tehsils vary from the highest of 43,397 (Pak
Rs/month) in Cantonment to the lowest 22,26 in Muridke.

3.1- Objectives/Goals

3.2- Policies
- Extraction from resources should not exceed their rates of renewal and re-generation;
- All that is consumed should be fully recycled;
- Toxic and non-recyclable waste should be eliminated;
- Equitable distribution of wealth
o Progressive taxation on incomes, movable and immovable property, and conspicuous consumption ;
3.3- Strategies
- Integrate urban economy with economy of host region
- Primary Production: Organic farming in host region
- Secondary Production: Artisanal manufacture of commodities at village, town and city levels based on natural raw materials and renewable energy;
- Tertiary Services: markets, trading and services at village, town and city levels
o Full employment opportunities for working population;
o Place of work located within walking distance of place of residence;
o Integrate housing for all income and occupational groups;
o Integrate land uses, particularly housing, employment and social infrastructure;
o Balance location of urban services and facilities in relation to population for each neighborhood;
- Urban Forestry:
- Increase forestation: River, canal, road and other marginal lands can supply entire needs of timber for the metropolitan area;
